Aura Elementary School in Glassboro has announced second-grade teacher Ryan Malloy and school nurse Marc Haro have received its 2020-’21 Governor “Educator of the Year” awards.
“Teacher of the Year” Ryan Malloy has been on the staff at Aura for 16 years, teaching kindergarten, first grade and second grade. She grew up in Glassboro and attended Rowan University, earning bachelor’s degrees in education and American studies. She also holds a science in teaching master’s degree from Rowan’s graduate school.
“My absolute favorite thing about teaching is fostering enthusiasm for learning while watching students become motivated, independent, lifelong learners,” Malloy writes on the Aura School website.
The school’s press release announcing Malloy’s choice as teacher of the year notes: Miss Malloy’s has a healthy balance of strict and super fun in her classes. She demands the very best of her students and they have so much fun learning from her innovative, hands-on lessons. . . . Miss Malloy is completely committed to providing a positive, creative and learner-centered environment where students of all abilities can reach success. She has poured countless hours into developing lessons that work best to support the needs of all students, supported our district’s shift to a hybrid learning model, and stepped up to the plate in assisting others in challenging technological situations.
“Educational Services Professional of the Year” Marc Haro is a newcomer to Aura Elementary but has been a registered nurse for 22 years. Earning his bachelor’s degree in nursing from the State University of New York at Stonybrook, Haro has worked in medical/surgical and telemetry units, spending a large part of his career nursing dialysis patients.
“I love the students at Aura and their excitement toward learning,” Haro writes on the Aura School website. “My main goal is to ensure that our students stay healthy so that they can excel in their classes and lead productive lifestyles.”
The school’s press release announcing Haro’s choice as educational services professional of the year notes: He goes well beyond his job title of school nurse. . . . Mr. Haro has established himself as a community resource and confidant at Aura. He heads up and coordinates numerous charitable efforts such as a Thanksgiving Drive and Holiday Gifts for families in need. . . . Mr. Haro has strengthened the trust of our staff and community by his diligence during this pandemic. Right from the start, Mr. Haro took great pride in leading the way to keep the students and staff safe. He is quick to make decisions and always does the right thing.
Aura Elementary School, part of the Elks Township School District, is at 900 Clems Run in Glassboro.
