LaGRANGE, Ga. (WRBL) — Troup County Schools named its School Nurse of the Year on Tuesday.

Margaret “Dee” Franklin has worked in the Troup County School System (TCSS) since August of 2020. Franklin has been a nurse since 2021.

Coordinator of Health Services Christy King said Franklin is the kind of nurse you want on your team.

“She is knowledgeable, compassionate, energetic, and dependable,” said King. “We are fortunate to have her; this recognition is well deserved.”

To qualify for nurse of the year, school nurses must have the minimum qualifications:

  • Two years of experience
  • Currently practice as school nurse
  • Spend more than 50% of their time in direct care

When asked what the honor means to her, Franklin said this:

“Every child deserves a school nurse. I am honored to have the privilege of serving my school every day. Being voted school nurse of the year is such a joyous honor, and I am so grateful for this opportunity to represent not just my school but TCSS as a whole!”
