Ohio Association of School Nurses announces recipients of annual school nursing awards

The Ohio Association of School Nurses recently announced the recipients of two school nursing awards. Mary Schatz, MSN, RN, LSN, was recognized as the 2024 School Nurse Administrator of the Year, and Virginia Shaffer, MS, BSN, RN, LSN, was recognized as the 2024 School Nurse of the Year.

Schatz is the Nurse Manager of School Health Services at Akron Children's Hospital and oversees 200 staff members across 43 school districts in the Akron Public Schools.

Shaffer is a Licensed School Nurse and the Diabetes Resource Nurse for the Columbus City Schools. She coordinates evidence-based care for 180 students with diabetes, provides staff education, and supports students with diabetes and their families. 

The awardees will be recognized during the Annual Ohio Association of School Nurses' conference April 19, at Sawmill Creek Resort in Huron, Ohio.

The Ohio Association of School Nurses (OASN) is the professional association for nurses working in Ohio schools and an affiliate of the National Association of School Nurses (NASN).
