Nursing professor recognized among 2024 Leaders and Legends of Texas Nursing

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Nursing’s Castella Endowed Distinguished Professor Kathleen R. Stevens, EdD, RN, ANEF, FAAN, has been named a 2024 Leaders and Legends of Texas Nursing honoree by the Texas Nurses Association (TNA).

The Leaders and Legends of Texas Nursing award is presented biennially by the TNA to individuals who have contributed significantly to the association’s mission, vision and purpose. The five honorees, including Stevens, have distinguished careers marked by a commitment to nursing, involvement in nursing organizations and leadership in nursing practice, education, research or leadership that positively impacted the health landscape of Texas.

Stevens’ accomplishments in health services research highlight evidence-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives for health care transformation. As a translational and implementation scientist, she has led interdisciplinary investigative teams focusing on academic-clinician partnerships, team performance and workforce issues.

With over 15 years of experience as the founding director of the Academic Center for Evidence-Based Practice, Stevens has demonstrated expertise in leading practice-based initiatives and federally funded national workforce development programs. Her leadership extends to the national stage, where she has been sought out to lead projects on evidence-based practice, implementation science and interprofessional team-based care, contributing significantly to the advancement of health care sciences.

Stevens’ dedication and contributions to the nursing profession will be celebrated at the Leaders and Legends gala event on May 31 in San Antonio, Texas.

The Texas Nurses Association is a statewide membership-based professional association of registered nurses dedicated to empowering Texas nurses to advance the profession. Founded in 1907, the association is the longest established and largest nursing association in Texas.
